  Craig gave her a crooked smile. “We’re going to have to learn to be quiet. We might traumatize the kids.”

  “Screw that.” Michele increased her rhythm, enjoy the feeling of him below and inside her. “Let’s just sound proof the room. As I recall, you’re quite the screamer.”

  “As I recall, so are you.”

  Michele stood next to Craig at the counter, sniffing her bouquet. She had managed to get it to start drying so she could preserve it, but the scent was still there.

  “Did you enjoy your stay here, Mister Ferguson?” Madeline sorted some of the check-out paperwork.

  “That would be an understatement,” Craig replied.

  “So everything worked out then?”

  “Not everything.” Michele looked at her husband. “But we’re on the right track.”

  “I’m so glad to hear that!” Madeline handed a paper to her husband. “That is your receipt, and I just need you to sign a few things for me. You have your rental car still?”

  “Yup.” Craig slashed his name on a few of the papers. “Our flight leaves at four.”

  “Then you have plenty of time.” Madeline shuffled a few papers around again. “Thank you for choosing my humble bed and breakfast, Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson. I certainly hope you’ll remember us and maybe visit again.”

  “We’ll never forget this place,” Craig said.

  “And we’ll be back,” Michele added.

  Craig took her hand as the headed for the door. A strange, warm feeling of love rushed through them, almost as if someone watching them approved of their new beginning. Michele couldn’t help but feel that maybe the place did have a touch of magic, and that someone, somewhere, had accepted their acts of contrition.
